Although ME/CFS can be challenging to treat, there are options available that can improve symptoms, increase function and enhance the quality of life of those affected.

Generally speaking, the most effective treatment programs usually consist of a blend of activity management, symptom control, lifestyle adjustments and coping strategies aimed at avoiding known ‘aggravators’ and reducing the physical and psychological impact of the disease.

Treatment may involve a range of medical disciplines including pacing, various pharmaceuticals, dietary and nutritional advice, physiotherapy, psychological counseling and other approaches best suited to each individual.

To help individuals understand the many treatment options available the Society provides members with a Telephone Helpline and runs regular Treatment Workshops with local and visiting speakers. A wide range of topics are covered and may include; pacing, dealing with food intolerance, sleep and pain management, supplementation, detoxification (chelation), gut health, stress management and coping strategies.
