21 October 2008
Today, October 18, 2008, at our annual meeting, Wisconsin CFS
Association members voted to change the name of our association to
the Wisconsin Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/ Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
Association, Inc. (WME/CFS) WITH the understanding that ME and CFS
are two different entities with an overlapping patient population.
The vote in person and by proxy was overwhelmingly in favor of, with
only 3 against and 4 abstentions.
As Executive Director, I will fill the papers ASAP, so we can make
the necessary changes. Of note, the WI CFS Association Board of
Directors' looked at this issue in 1988, changed our name from the WI
CEBV Association, Inc. to the WI CFS Association, Inc. and in 1991
wrote our first Board letter in support of an effort to keep Myalgic
Encephalomyelits as a formal name for this disease. Our website,
www.wicfs-me.org, was created in 2001 and reflects our continued
belief that CFS and ME are related diseases with overlapping patient
populations.
We will continue to use ME/CFS until we have the science to show us
we should do otherwise.
Pat Fero, MEPD
Executive Director
